The Courtyard of the Happy Way & Weihsien Concentration Camp Museum opens to the public

　　September 3rd marks the 75th anniversary of the victory of Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. The Courtyard of the Happy Way & Weihsien Concentration Camp Museum opened on the same day and the plaques of “National Patriotism Education Demonstration Base” and National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit” were unveiled. The century-old Courtyard of the Happy Way ushered in a new mission. It is the first national patriotism education demonstration base in Weifang.

　　At 11 o 'clock in the morning of September 3rd, peace songs were playing in the square in front of the "Cross Building" of the Courtyard of the Happy Way & Weihsien Concentration Camp Museum. Then the Five-Starred Red Flag was raised in the square to the sound of the majestic national anthem. A three-minute video followed, revisiting the past and present lives of the Courtyard of the Happy Way, a century-old historical memory.

　　Chu Baojie, member of the Standing Committee of the Weifang Municipal Party Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the Weifang Municipal Party Committee, presided over the ceremony. Hui Xin’an, secretary of the Weifang Municipal Party Committee and director of the Standing Committee of the Municipal People’s Congress, famous radiologist Xia Baoshu, also the former president of Weifang Municipal People’s Hospital, and Liu Cheng, joint reporter of Nanjing International Peace City and professor of Nanjing University delivered speeches respectively. During the ceremony, survivors and their families of foreign nationals detained in the Courtyard of the Happy Way & Weihsien Concentration Camp were also contacted by video. Then the participating leaders unveiled the "National Patriotism Education Demonstration Base" and "National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit" for the Courtyard of the Happy Way & Weihsien Concentration Camp Museum, and visited the museum.

　　On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War, the opening of the Courtyard of the Happy Way & Weihsien Concentration Camp Museum fulfills a glorious mission. By hosting the opening ceremony and academic activities, the museum excavates the history of protecting the old site of the Courtyard of the Happy Way & the Former Site of Weihsien Concentration Camp to integrate it with the city memory, national memory and global memory, enhance the general public’s awareness of cherishing peace and building a community with a shared future for mankind, form a strong atmosphere to promote the spirit of patriotism and internationalism, and to help Weifang to build an international peaceful city.
