Since 1882, the American missionary Mateer Robert M built the first building of the Courtyard of the Happy Way in Weihsien, there have been many different types of buildings in the area in more than 100 years. Compared with the magnificent Western architecture in cities of Nanjing and Shanghai, the Courtyard of the Happy Way is much smaller, but with its unique features. For example, the Cross Building, which has been well preserved so far, is particularly unique for its "cross" architectural structure. Another example is the church, which looks like a complex and exquisite Chinese-style pavilion. These modern buildings came into existence due to the entrance of foreign church forces, but they have greatly changed the townscape of Weihsien objectively and are the witnesses of its modern social development and changes.
