The Courtyard of the Happy Way and Weihsien Concentration Camp Museum opened on September 3, 2020, reportedly the first national patriotism education demonstration base in Weifang.

A British friend of Liu Cheng, a professor at Nanjing University and a joint claimant of Nanjing International Peace City, was once detained in Weihsien Concentration Camp. Liu Cheng believed that Weihsien Concentration Camp was the largest concentration camp for Allied nationals in Asia, and Weifang had a greater responsibility to spread China's voice of peace to the world. On the same day, several survivors and their families who were detained here during World War II made a video tribute, as they could not come to the scene in person due to the epidemic.

The museum plans to launch a global roadshow. In three years, Weifang city will make applications to the Association of International Peace City to foster Weifang into the second domestic and the first International Peace City in Shandong in 3 years, based on Weihsien Concentration Camp and integrating historical and cultural resources including Fangzi Town and the site of the former British cigarette factory.
