Cultural relics and cultural heritage, bearing the genes and blood of the Chinese nation, are non-renewable and irreplaceable resources of China's outstanding civilization. To protect, pass on, and make good use of cultural relics is an important part of promoting self-confidence and self-improvement of socialist culture and creating new glory in socialist culture. We specially invite Li Qun, member of the CPPCC National Committee, Vice Minister of Culture and Tourism and Director of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, to share his understanding and experience on the protection and inheritance of cultural relics and cultural heritage.

 What are the priorities of the protection and inheritance of cultural relics and heritage in the new era?

Member Li Qun:

 On the new journey, we will continue to strengthen the protection of cultural relics and cultural heritage, improve the system and mechanism for the protection and management of cultural relics, improve the system of laws and regulations on cultural relics, accelerate the revision of the Protection Law on cultural relics, improve the registration system for cultural relics census, and firmly uphold the bottom line, red line and lifeline of cultural relics safety. We will deepen research on the history of civilization, carry out the project to explore the origins of Chinese civilization and the major project of "archaeology in China", strive to build archaeology with Chinese characteristics, style and style, protect, manage and use revolutionary cultural relics well, provide theoretical support for advancing the "two combinations" and creating a new form of human civilization, and encourage the whole society to strengthen historical awareness and cultural confidence.

 Could you talk about how to integrate the conservation and utilization of cultural relics into modern life so that history, culture and modernization can complement each other?

Member Li Qun:

Cultural relics are the witness of history, and to protect cultural relics is to protect history.  The protection and utilization of cultural relics should be organically integrated into modern life, and the protection and utilization of cultural relics should be effectively achieved through protection and development. We should adhere to the concept of system, balance the protection of cultural relics with urban and rural construction, economic development and tourism development, and implement spatial control measures for cultural relics protection in national space planning. We will persist in reform and innovation, promote the development of national cultural parks, serve major regional strategies, guide nongovernmental forces to participate in the protection of cultural relics, and encourage and support nongovernmental investment. We will dig deep into the historical and cultural heritage of cultural relics, actively promote cultural relic protection units, museums, world heritage sites, and revolutionary cultural relics resources to become tourism destinations with distinctive features and models of civilized tourism, enhance the educational and tourism value functions of cultural relics, and integrate the protection and utilization of cultural relics with the inheritance of civilization, urban renewal, rural revitalization, and improvement of people's livelihood. We will strengthen the exploration and interpretation of the value of cultural relics, make innovations in the commercialization of archaeological and historical research findings, accelerate the digital development of cultural and cultural fields, foster new consumption of cultural and cultural relics, form new economic growth points, and enable the digital transformation of the social economy.

 Could you talk about how to deepen exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations by leveraging the role of cultural relics and cultural heritage as "golden cards"?

Cultural relics and cultural heritage have a charm that transcends time and space, transcends regions, and reaches people's hearts. They are important resources to meet people's needs for a better life, and an important name card for expanding the international influence of Chinese culture.  We should give full play to the unique role of cultural relics in promoting exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations, carry out brand projects such as the Asian Cultural Heritage Protection Action, Sino-Foreign Joint Archaeological Action and Endangered Cultural Heritage Protection Action, and encourage Chinese cultural relic workers, Chinese cultural heritage protection concepts, methods and standards, and Chinese cultural influence to go global. We will deepen exchanges and cooperation on cultural relics under the Belt and Road Initiative, expand the achievements of the action on the protection of Asian cultural heritage, improve the recovery and return system of lost cultural relics, advance key Sino-foreign joint archaeological and cultural heritage exhibition and exchange projects, make better use of cultural relics and cultural heritage to tell China's story, promote exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations, and present a credible, lovely and respectable image of China.
